Thed Björk crowns strong WTCR weekend in Spain with victory

2020/11/02

Thed Björk claimed his first World Touring Car Cup victory of 2020 in the final race at MotorLand Aragón, making it a total of five podium finishes for Lynk & Co Cyan Racing this weekend.

"Finally a victory, my first this year! I fought really hard for it. I just decided at the start that it was mine and I was able to take the lead from second on the grid. A big thank you to the team, they have worked so hard for this," said Thed Björk.

Championship leader Yann Ehrlacher had a tough weekend with seventh as his best result from the three races. But he has still extended his lead to 26 points over Honda driver Esteban Guerrieri.

"This was not the weekend we hoped for unfortunately. I had an engine issue in the last race that cost us a lot of points. But we can't do anything about that now, we just need to reload and fully focus on the season finale," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Santiago Urrutia secured his so far best WTCR weekend, finishing on the podium in all three races, including two second place finishes and a 1-2 with Thed Björk in the final race.

"I'm just super happy with three podiums and another 1-2 for the team. A massive thank you to the team, they gave me an awesome car. Now we have to focus on the last three races as the championship is very tight," said Santiago Urrutia.

Yvan Muller had a tough last race but a strong second race where he finished second, his fourth podium finish of 2020.

"The podium in the second race was really good but the result from the last race was not what we wanted unfortunately. I had a technical issue and I couldn't fight for positions, we need to analyse this thoroughly ahead of the last race weekend," said Yvan Muller.

Cyan Racing Lynk & Co (Ehrlacher/Muller) heads the team standings on 335 points, 55 points ahead of Honda team Münnich Motorsport.

The season finale will take place on November 14-15 and has been moved from Adria in Italy to MotorLand Aragón in Spain due to delayed construction works.

The move means that the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing team will remain at the Spanish circuit until the season finale.
